A Deadly Distance Given 4 Stars!!

Sarah’s Stars reviewer, Allison gives A Deadly Distance a FOUR star reviews. She writes:

“If you like historical fiction book then this would be a quick good book for you. I would usually walk past this kind of book, but then I started reading ti and fell in love with it by the second chapter. For a well-written book I’m giving A Deadly Distance 4 stars. An enjoyable book for ages 10 and up”

A Deadly Distance

A Deadly Distance explores the friendship between Mishbee, a Beothuk, and John, a settler, in early 19th Century Newfoundland. After Mishbee’s people have been wiped out by deadly diseases, she faces prejudice and persecution from European settlers. As her friendship with John gros stronger so does the bridge between the two cultures.

  1. I read this book to a grade 5 Learning Strategies class in Edmonton. The students LOVED it! Without prompting many of my students have incorporated Mishbee and John into their writing. It has been a wonderful way to discuss Aboriginal and European relations. As we continue to learn Canadian history we are able to make comparisons to the events of the story. I highly recommend it!
