The July 2008 issue of The Midwest Book Review features a review of the inspirational non-fiction book For the Record: The First Women in Canadian Architecture, which includes profiles of the women who graduated from the School of Architecture at the University of Toronto between 1920 and 1960 and photographs of their work including archival material that has never before been published. Here is the complete review.
“Women through history have had to break various gender barriers, and the world of architecture is no different. For the Record: The First Women in Canadian Architecture is a look at the early days of the first female architects in Canada, who started to slowly break through and established themselves around the year 1920. Following the line until women in Canadian architecture started to become the norm around the 1970s, For the Recordis a complete history, sure to inspire girls everywhere. Highly recommended for community library women’s studies collections.”
