Terror Threat Author Talks About the First “Toronto 18″ Verdict

Terror ThreatJust over two years ago, in a series of dramatic police raids in Toronto and the surrounding areas, which shocked many Torontonians, police arrested 18 men suspected of conspiring to bomb several Canadian targets including Parliament Hill, RCMP headquarters CBC buildings in downtown Toronto, and nuclear power plants. Today, the first of the 11 suspected terrorists (the other 7 suspects saw their charges stayed or dropped) was found guilty of “participating in terrorist activity” and became the first person to be convicted under Canada’s new anti-terrorism laws. Dwight Hamilton, former member of Canadian military intelligence and co-author of Terror Threat: International and Homegrown Terrorists and Their Threat to Canada will be on The Night Hawk with Geoff Currier (CJOB Winnipeg) at 9pm commenting on this case. Discussion

One comment for “Terror Threat Author Talks About the First “Toronto 18″ Verdict”

  1. I have yet to read this much-talked-about book, but I would be interested to see what is mentioned about the “Toronto 18″ case in particular. It is interesting to note that they “guilty” youth in this case was not knowingly a member of this “terrorist” group, setting a dangerous precedent for security agencies to ensnare innocent, peripheral characters in their dragnet in order to justify enormous post-9/11 budgets. 7 people were let go, after all. A few good things to keep in mind about this case are presented in the documentary Unfair Dealing on Google Video.
